We will be organizing a Lusaka V-Day performance for mid-February 2019. V-Day is a global movement to end violence against women and girls born out of The Vagina Monologues by Eve Ensler.
In February 2018, we held an incredible event featuring V-Day, global essays addressing sexual violence as well as original poetry and music. It was a collaboration of Zambians and Americans with over 100 people attending. For 2019, we would like to take the event to a larger stage and audience, and invite people to submit their own essays, poems/spoken word, artwork, music and even dance all focused on ending violence against women.
We would like to develop an application process to solicit a range of entries that we will then screen and shortlist. We would like to hold this at the Lusaka Playhouse as a fundraiser for a local organization working to address Gender Based Violence in Zambia. Please let us know if you would like to volunteer and be involved in organizing this event.
